Discover The Bailiwick: A Destination for Bailiwick Dining

If you are looking for a memorable dining experience surrounded by beautiful countryside, The Bailiwick offers a wonderful setting to enjoy carefully prepared food and the character of a classic country pub. Located on the gates of Windsor Great Park, The Bailiwick combines a welcoming pub atmosphere with sophisticated cooking, seasonal ingredients and a strong connection to local produce.

The Bailiwick is a gastronomic destination for locals and visitors, offering a distinctive dining approach that celebrates the natural larder of the surrounding area. From its beautiful terrace overlooking ancient deciduous woodland to its seasonally evolving menus, every visit offers an opportunity to enjoy the best of British produce.

A Classic Country Pub Since 1877

The Bailiwick has been positioned on the gates of Windsor Great Park since 1877, giving the pub a long connection with this beautiful part of the country. Today, The Bailiwick Free House is led by Steven and Ami Ellis, who have developed the venue into a destination where traditional pub character meets a more sophisticated style of cooking.

Its location makes it particularly appealing for those who appreciate countryside surroundings alongside good food. The beautiful terrace overlooks ancient deciduous woodland, creating a relaxed backdrop for a meal or a drink.

The Bailiwick's setting is an important part of its identity. Rather than simply being somewhere to eat, it provides an opportunity to enjoy food while taking in the scenery around Windsor Great Park.

Sophisticated Cooking with Familiar Flavours

One of the defining features of The Bailiwick is its approach to familiar dishes. Steven and Ami Ellis have trained under Andrew Pern of the Michelin-starred Star Inn in Harome and Clare Smyth MBE at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. Their experience has helped them bring a sophisticated twist to familiar dishes while maintaining a strong connection to the ingredients themselves.

The result is a dining style that focuses on quality produce and thoughtful preparation. The menu changes with the seasons, allowing the kitchen to make the most of ingredients when they are at their best.

For anyone interested in Bailiwick dining, this seasonal approach is an important part of the experience. The menu is not simply fixed throughout the year. Instead, it evolves according to seasonal variations and the availability of exceptional ingredients.

A Strong Connection with Local Produce

The Bailiwick is passionate about showcasing the very best produce from the country's natural larder. The team works closely with suppliers, fishermen, butchers and gamekeepers to create its seasonally evolving menus.

Steven has a particular love of game, and his strong relationship with the Gamekeeper of Windsor Great Park means that The Bailiwick benefits exclusively from exceptional ingredients throughout the seasons.

This connection with local suppliers gives the food a clear sense of place. It also allows the restaurant to respond to the changing seasons and create dishes around the produce available at different times of the year.

If you have a particular dish or treat in mind, it is worth contacting The Bailiwick before visiting. As the menu can change because of seasonal variations, the team recommends checking availability to avoid disappointment.

Dining at The Bailiwick

The Bailiwick offers different dining options throughout the week. From Wednesday to Friday, lunchtime bookings are available from 12 pm to 3 pm, followed by dinner service from 6 pm to 9 pm. The bar remains open until 11 pm.

On Saturdays, breakfast is served from 9 am to 11 am, followed by lunch from 12 pm to 3 pm and dinner from 6 pm to 9 pm. The bar is also open until 11 pm.

Sunday begins with breakfast from 9 am to 11 am, followed by lunchtime service from 12 pm to 4 pm. The bar is open from 12 pm to 6 pm.

The menus also vary according to the day. The Bar Menu is available for lunch from Wednesday to Saturday, while the À La Carte Menu is available for lunch on Friday and Saturday and for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday. On Sundays, guests can enjoy the Sunday Roast Menu.

A Countryside Setting to Enjoy

Because The Bailiwick sits on the gates of Windsor Great Park, its surroundings add another dimension to the dining experience. There is no designated parking area for guests, but parking bays are available around the park. Some spaces are a little further away, giving visitors the chance to enjoy more of the surrounding scenery on the walk to the pub.

Guests are also asked to mention any dietary requirements, mobility needs or plans to bring a four-legged friend when making a booking. This allows the team to prepare for individual requirements ahead of the visit.

The Bailiwick at Home

The Bailiwick's dining experience can also be brought into your own home through The Bailiwick at Home. This option is designed for those looking for a distinctive way to celebrate a special event without leaving home.

The committed team provides personalised service in your dining space, while Steven prepares a thoughtfully crafted menu tailored to your tastes. It offers an opportunity to enjoy a culinary experience with family and friends in a familiar and comfortable setting.
